Plymouth: Miron Muslic appointed Argyle boss as Wayne Rooney’s replacement at Championship club | Football News Find help us

Plymouth Argyle have announced Miron Muslic as the club’s new head coach on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Muslic was most recently the manager of Cercle Brugge where he had an impressive record, winning 43 of his 101 games in charge as he took the Belgian side from a lowly domestic position to European football.

Plymouth sit bottom of the Sky Bet Championship table on 20 points from 25 games, with the Austrian-Bosnian arriving as Wayne Rooney’s successor.

The 42-year-old has had further management experience at Austrian sides Ried and Floridsdorfer AC.

Muslic beat off competition from several high-calibre candidates to become Argyle’s number one choice with the board, and chair Simon Hallett has expressed his delight at bringing him to the club.

He said: “Miron had a clear vision of how he wanted to take Argyle forward and showed a depth of tactical awareness that made it clear exactly how he wanted the team to set up and play.

“He comes with glowing reviews from his time at Cercle Brugge where he took a team from a lowly league position to European football which is no mean feat.

“I want to welcome him to the club and look forward to seeing him have an immediate impact on the team.”

Muslic will be in the stands for Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup tie against Brentford alongside Hallett.

First-team coach Kevin Nancekivell will form part of Muslic’s backroom team, with further confirmation of the make-up of his staff in due course.

Rooney departed Plymouth Argyle after a nine-game winless run left the club bottom of the Sky Bet Championship on New Year’s Eve.

Appointed in May on a three-year deal, Rooney exited Plymouth after just seven months in charge with the club four points from safety.

His last game at the helm came on December 29, when Argyle were beaten 2-0 at fellow strugglers Oxford.
