“Never Say Never”: Isaiah Mustafa Gives Sly Update on ‘It: Chapter 3’ Find help us

Good news, losers! While the It: Welcome to Derry prequel series will elaborate on the origins of iconic clown Pennywise, franchise star Isaiah Mustafa, who played the adult version of Mike Hanlon in It: Chapter 2, teased a possible return to the franchise. While nothing is confirmed, given Chapter 2 conclusively wrapped all the storylines, the success of the upcoming series could change the dynamic (fingers crossed). In a new conversation with Screen Rant, Mustafa spoke about the possibility of another sequel as well as teased the upcoming series.

I could never say never, especially with a franchise like It,” Mustafa said, when asked about his return to the series. Though the actor admitted that the chances of a continuation of director Andy Muschietti‘s films are few and far between, he added, “You never know when you’ll see Mike Hanlon pop up, and that’s the truth. But I’ve never thought that there wouldn’t be anything to continue the story.”

‘It: Welcome to Derry’ Will Expand the Lore

Sometime later this year, the new series will take fans back to Derry and investigate various catastrophic events that occur when Pennywise comes out of hibernation. “I think Welcome to Derry will continue the story in ways fans will really appreciate and really love. It’ll fill in some gaps,” Mustafa teased. He further revealed that he has been to the series set where Muschietti gave him a tour. “I was lucky enough to go on set while I was in Toronto, and Andy was directing the episode that I went to. It was really, really cool to see those guys.” He added,

“No spoilers, though. I did not sign an NDA, but I know better than to say anything about what’s coming. I don’t even know if he was directing, I just saw him, he directed me into the building, that’s it. [Laughs] “Look at that. Look at that. Don’t talk about that. Oh, and then that right there? You didn’t see that.”

While most details about the plot are kept tightly under wraps, Welcome to Derry will follow a new group of losers and take us back in time to showcase what makes Pennywise so horrific, and no one is safe. Muschietti already has a three-season arc for the series. It: Welcome to Derry still doesn’t have a premiere date yet, but as previously mentioned, Season 1 will be released this year. Meanwhile you can check out the IT movies on Max.
