Invincible has been a hit as an adult animated Amazon Prime original series based on the comic book series of the same name, written by Robert Kirkman. As the highly-anticipated third season is about to be released, fans of the show and comics have been eagerly waiting to find out who will provide the voice acting for several new roles. Without giving too much away, the story’s basic plot begins with Mark Grayson, a 17-year-old whose father is a Superman-like being known as a Viltrumite. He came to Earth from the planet Viltrum and eventually married Debbie, Mark’s mother. Being half human and half Viltrumite, Mark develops superhuman powers and wants nothing more than to join his father as a superhero defending the world. He soon learns that his father, Nolan (a.k.a. Omni-Man) has acted in bad faith and was sent to Earth to conquer and take it under the absolute control of Viltrum.
Torn between his humanity and his desire to become a superhero, Mark is forced to decide whom he will fight with and who he will fight against. The third season premiered on February 6, 2025, so if you haven’t seen the previous two seasons, now is the time to catch up on this dramatic and brutal animated series. The casting choices for voice actors have been met with fan approval so far, and the third season continues to impress and draw an even larger viewer audience. Read on to find out more about the main cast and the newcomers for this season!
Stephen Yeun
Mark Grayson/Invincible
The main character, Mark Grayson, developed his superhuman abilities at the age of 17, but in the years since he first started his Invincible superhero journey, he’s not only developed his powers but also his understanding of empathy, justice, and outright hatred. After a grueling and devastating fight with his father, Nolan, he returns to his routine as a “friendly neighborhood™” superhero. Mark is voiced by The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun, who also recently starred in films like The Humans, Nope, and the hit Netflix series Beef. In addition to voicing Mark in the Invincible series, he’s also been in several new and upcoming projects, like Love Me, Bubble & Squeak, and Mickey 17. Mark is able to find and make slight amends with his father during the second season, but the future of the show remains a mystery to those who haven’t read the comics first.
J. K. Simmons
Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man
J. K. Simmons is best known for portraying verbally abrasive characters. Anybody who has seen his performance in Whiplash knows better than to get into an argument with him. His stern and commanding voice has also been seared into the minds of every generation of Spider-Man fans, as he played the ostentatious character, J. Jonah Jameson. As Nolan (or Omni-Man), he similarly demonstrates his unyielding disdain for weakness and is seemingly unstoppable– until his son, Mark, gains his powers. Similar to Mark, he is torn between his love for his son and his Viltrumite mission to take control of Earth, Nolan nearly kills Mark during their epic battle in the first season. At the last minute, he feels remorse and disappears into space, shedding a single tear. Of course, Mark and Nolan team up against a common threat in the second season, but it’s still unclear what path Omni-Man will take as the series progresses.
Sandrah Oh
Debbie Grayson
Debbie Grayson is Mark’s human mother and is technically still married to Nolan, despite some revelations that occurred in the first season. She adds delicate insight to both Mark and Nolan about the intricacies of human life, empathy, and humility. Even after hearing Nolan refer to her as being “more like a pet” in the first season, she still finds a way to cope and help Mark through the physical and emotional damage inflicted by his father. Debbie is voiced by Grey’s Anatomy’s Sandra Oh, who has also starred in the psychological drama series Killing Eve. She’s also previously starred in comedies (and dark comedies) such as The Princess Diaries, Sideways, and a brief appearance as the concerned neighbor in the 2005 psychological thriller, Hard Candy.
Zazie Beetz
Amber Bennett
Amber is Mark’s initial love interest in the first and second seasons of Invincible. She is essentially the “Mary Jane” to his “Peter Parker.” Attending high school together and scouting potential universities to attend after graduation, she is quick to realize that Mark has superhero abilities. She’s understanding for the most part when he shows up late or has to disappear suddenly during emergencies, but she remains firm on her boundaries and expectations from her new boyfriend. Amber Bennett is voiced by Zazie Beetz, who is no stranger to the various superhero franchises. She appeared as Domino, whose superpower was “luck,” in Marvel’s Deadpool 2, then re-emerged in the DC universe as the neighbor of Joaquin Phoenix’s character Arthur Fleck in Joker.
Walton Goggins
Cecil
Walton Goggins tends to be type-casted into certain roles as a witty Southerner with a quick temper, such as in The Hateful Eight, Vice Principals, and Django Unchained. However, he takes on an entirely new persona in Invincible as Cecil Stedman, the director of the Global Defense Agency (DGA). He manages the various superheroes and deploys them to sites wherever a threat emerges that requires their attention. He is close friends with the Grayson family, and takes Mark under his wing after his powers emerge, knowing that Mark is potentially the only person who could protect Earth from his father and the other Viltrumites. Walton Goggins also stepped into another iconic role recently as The Ghoul/Cooper Howard in the Amazon series Fallout, based on the video game of the same name and will be starring in the upcoming season of The White Lotus.
Gillian Jacobs
Samantha Wilkins/Atom Eve
Atom Eve, also known as Samantha Wilkins, is another teenage classmate of Mark Grayson. She also happens to have superpowers of her own. Featured in her own standalone prequel special, Invincible: Atom Eve, she learns that her powers come with mixed reactions from those who are aware of her abilities, including her terribly unsupportive parents. She forms a bond with Mark, due to their shared abilities and secret identities, but remains aloof for the most part regarding any romantic inclinations towards him, out of respect for his tentative relationship with Amber. Samantha is voiced by Gillian Jacobs (Community) who is known for her sarcasm and snarky responses when in character. Recently, she appeared in The Bear as Tiffany, the ex-wife and mother of Cousin Richie’s daughter, and in Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy.
Aaron Paul
Scott Duvall/Powerplex
New to the series is none other than Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul. Aside from the chemistry-heavy drama series that everybody knows, he’s also done voice work for the dark science-fiction series Black Mirror, BoJack Horseman, and the Breaking Bad spinoff film, El Camino. Unless you’ve read the comic series, the character of Powerplex might seem ambiguous to you, but Powerplex is no ally to Mark and his friends. His character will be a force to be reckoned with. Similar to Marvel’s Gambit (most recently portrayed by Channing Tatum in Deadpool & Wolverine), Powerplex is able to absorb kinetic energy from punches, flying objects, and explosions. He also has the ability of electrokinesis, which allows him to control electricity, much like Marvel’s Magneto’s ability to control and shape metal through magnetic manipulation, essentially giving both characters the ability for flight.
Kate Mara
Becky Duvall
Kate Mara has been in a plethora of films and television series that show off her acting prowess. However, her standout roles have been in the controversial Netflix series House of Cards, The Martian, Black Mirror, and early seasons of American Horror Story. In Invincible, Mara will be playing Becky Duvall, wife to Aaron Scott’s “Scott Duvall.” Although she doesn’t have superpowers herself, Becky is a pivotal character and supporter of Scott’s actions in the upcoming season, as both of them have lost someone very close to them in the fallout from Mark and Nolan’s devastating fight sequence from the first season.
Christian Convery
Oliver
Oliver is Mark Grayson’s half-brother and is subsequently half-Viltrumite and half-Thraxan. In the second season, Oliver is introduced as a toddler. After fleeing Earth at the end of the first season, Nolan finds refuge on planet Thraxa and enters a romantic relationship with Andressa (Rhea Seehorn) and the two have a child. After Thraxa is attacked by other Viltrumites, Mark takes Oliver home to raise as his half-brother with Debbie. Given Oliver’s unique genetic makeup, his powers and abilities are still relatively unknown at the end of the second season… similar to Jack-Jack from the Disney-Pixar films The Incredibles. In the new season, Oliver is older (as he ages more quickly than humans) and will be voiced by 15-year-old Christian Convery. Convery has appeared in movies like Diary of A Wimpy Kid, the television series Sweet Tooth, the horror-comedy, Cocaine Bear, and will be in the latest Stephen King film adaptation of The Monkey.
Simu Liu
Multi-Paul
We’ve seen Dupli-Kate show off her replication abilities in the first two seasons, but now we welcome Multi-Paul. Played by Disney’s Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ Simu Liu, this character is actually a twin to Dupli-Kate (Melese Jow). As a hired assassin for an elite criminal organization, Multi-Paul poses a severe threat to Mark and anyone who stands by his side. After being rejected as toddlers, following the death of their mother, the twins are separated and forced into foster care and constant testing. However, being treated as a specimen instead of a child, each formed their sardonic and cynical ideas about how the world works and took separate paths after they were split up. Multi-Paul is employed by the mysterious Mr. Liu to carry out his orders, no matter the cost.
Xolo Maridueña
Dropkick/Fightmaster
Speaking of twins… Xolo Maridueña will be voicing the superhero Dropkick and his twin brother, Fightmaster. Dropkick is intent on “saving the future from a madman,” and has no direct ties to the plights of Mark and his other earthly companions. Maridueña has recently appeared in Blue Beetle and starred in the Cobra Kai series as Miguel Diaz. He also made a guest appearance in the animated spinoff, The Boys Presents: Diabolical as “Agua Agua.”
Tzi Ma
Mr. Liu
Mr. Liu has been with the series since the first season. When Nolan takes Debbie on a date in Rome, the city soon falls under attack by a dragon. That dragon just so happens to be Mr. Liu, a human with the ability to transform into a giant dragon, fly through the air, and breathe fire. As the leader of the international crime syndicate known as “The Order,” Liu commands respect from other supers such as Multi-Paul and the rock-based heavy-hitter, Titan, who appears in the first two seasons of the series. Mr. Liu is voiced by Hong Kong-American actor Tzi Ma, who is known best for his performances in Dante’s Peak, Rush Hour, Arrival, and the live-action version of Mulan.
Other Supporting Cast Members
In addition to the core cast and new additions, several voice actors will be returning to their roles in the series, such as Zachary Quinto (Star Trek) as Robot, Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express) as Allen the Alien, and Jason Mantzoukas (The League) as Rex Splode. Hellraiser’s “Pinhead,” Doug Bradley, will also join the cast in an unknown role, as will Jonathan Banks, who will likely be thrilled to reunite with Breaking Bad co-star, Aaron Paul. Banks is also in an undisclosed role, so the reveal is sure to be an interesting comeback.
