US President Donald Trump has said he is revoking the security clearance of his predecessor, Joe Biden.
Writing in a post on Truth Social, Trump said: “There is no need for Joe Biden to continue receiving access to classified information.”
He said his administration would therefore be revoking his security clearances and daily intelligence briefings. “JOE, YOU’RE FIRED,” he said.
The Republican said he was doing what Biden had done to him when he was president.
Biden “set this precedent in 2021, when he instructed the Intelligence Community (IC) to stop the 45th President of the United States (ME!) from accessing details on National Security, a courtesy provided to former Presidents”.
He said Biden “could not be trusted with sensitive information”, citing a justice department inquiry into the Democrat’s storage of classified files, which said Biden had a poor memory.
Biden, who has taken some time away from the limelight since leaving his post as president last month, has not yet responded to the comments.
After taking office in 2021, Biden barred Trump from receiving intelligence briefings traditionally given to former presidents, citing his “erratic behaviour”.
