In Season 10, Episode 12 of Chicago Med, Nurse Doris faced a challenging situation. After a new shipment of medicines arrived, Dr. Lenox instructed Nurse Maggie to restock the Pyxis due to the staff shortage. Although Maggie was hesitant because it wasn’t typically her responsibility, she asked Doris to oversee the medication distribution system.
Things turned upside down when Lenox discovered that his patient had not received the appropriate dose of morphine. He called Doris, who was responsible for administering the medication. Lenox became angry with her for giving an adult the dosage meant for a child. However, Doris clarified that she had actually administered an eight-milligram dose to the man.
Soon, Doris realized that she had mixed up the doses of a man and a child. She ended up giving a heavy dosage to a child whose condition took a worse turn. Doris tried apologizing to Lenox who refused to hear any explanations. Maggie urged Lenox to forgive her. However, Lenox asked Maggie to fire Doris or he would take the matter up to the chain.
Maggie firmly stood by her beloved nurse, making it clear that she would resign if Doris were fired. She reminded Lenox of the hard work and challenges nurses face, especially when asked to perform tasks outside their job description, such as restocking the Pyxis. In response, Lenox explained that he couldn’t afford to lose two senior nurses and mentioned that he would be giving his state of the E.D. address to the board next week.
