Miami’s Cam Ward is still the favorite to be chosen first in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Penn State’s Abdul Carter thinks that should no longer be the case. Let’s take a look at the odds to be the first pick in the 2025 draft at FanDuel Sportsbook as of Feb. 10, before we get into what Carter had to say after Super Bowl LIX.
2025 NFL DRAFT NO. 1 PICK ODDS:
Cam Ward, Miami: -110 (bet $10 to win $19.09 total)
Abdul Carter, Penn State: +200 (bet $10 to win $30 total)
Travis Hunter, Colorado: +400 (bet $10 to win $50 total)
Shedeur Sanders, Colorado: +500 (bet $10 to win $60 total)
Hurricanes’ quarterback Cam Ward moved to -110 from +110 over the last week, and from +750 since the end of November.
However, second on the board — and making waves on social media — is Penn State’s Abdul Carter. The Nittany Lion is at +200, but had something to say after the Super Bowl on Sunday night.
Carter was undoubtedly watching the defensive display put on by the Eagles in their 40-22 win over the Chiefs.
Philly forced Patrick Mahomes into two interceptions — including a pick-six — and also forced two fumbles by the Chiefs, one of which the Eagles recovered.
The Eagles also held K.C. to zero points in the first half, and the Chiefs didn’t get on the board until there were just six seconds left in the third quarter. All of their points were scored in garbage time, after Philadelphia led 34-0.
Lastly, the Eagles sacked Mahomes six times on the day.
In other words, defense certainly had something to do with this championship, to Carter’s point.
This past season, Carter was a unanimous All-American and was the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
Despite those accolades, FOX Sports NFL Draft analyst Rob Rang has Carter going seventh to the Jets in April, even though he admits Carter could creep up to No. 1.
“A former linebacker with exceptional speed, the 6-foot-3, 245-pound Carter is going to wow in workouts and might ultimately wind up as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft. But in this exercise, he falls a bit to the Jets, a franchise needing some good fortune after back-to-back seasons of massive disappointment. The Jets already boast a formidable pass rush with Will McDonald and Quinnen Williams leading the way, but Carter could make a strong group one of the league’s elite.”
