Golden Globe nominee Sarah Michelle Gellar has finally broke her silence regarding Hulu‘s recently announced Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival, which hails from 20th Television and Searchlight Television.
Based on the iconic supernatural drama series, the revival will be written and directed by Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman, who are also set to serve as showrunners. Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao is also attached to direct and executive produce, alongside Gellar, Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, Kaz Kuzi, and Dolly Parton. The story will will reportedly “focus on a new Slayer and Gellar would appear in a recurring role rather than leading the series.”
What did Sarah Michelle Gellar say about the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Revival?
On Instagram, Gellar has shared her official statement about the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival, confirming that she has been attached to the project for three years now. She admitted that she was initially apprehensive about doing a Buffy revival.
However, after hearing Zhao’s vision for the project, she was able to see the potential of the show. She assured fans that the project wouldn’t happened if they weren’t able to find the right story to bring back Buffy.
“I have always listened to the fans and heard your desire to revisit ‘Buffy’ and her world, but it was not something I could do unless I was sure we would get it right. This has been a long process, and it’s not over yet. I promise you, we will only make this show if we know we can do it right. And I will tell you that we are on the path there,” Geller wrote in her statement (which you can fully read below). “I feel so lucky to be on this journey with these four unbelievably talented women, all of whom love “Buffy” as much as I do. And as much as you do. Thank you to all the fans who never stopped asking for this. This will be for you.”
